Connecting Shareflo to Claude with the MCP Connector

The Shareflo MCP connector lets you read and update your cap table directly from Claude. Ask questions, record equity events, and add stakeholders — all through natural language, without opening the Shareflo app.
What the Connector Does
The Shareflo MCP connector gives Claude read and write access to your cap table. Once connected, you can:
View your share classes, option classes, and other instruments
List stakeholders and their holdings
Record new share allotments and option grants
Add new stakeholders and their representatives
Ask questions about your cap table in plain English
Before any write action, Claude will list every detail of what it is about to do and ask for your confirmation. Nothing is saved until you approve.
Prerequisites
Before connecting, you will need:
A Shareflo account (any paid plan)
A Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription — connectors require a paid Claude plan

What You Can Ask Claude
Once connected, Claude has access to the following:
Tool | Tool name | What you can do | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
Unlock Shareflo | unlock_shareflo | Initialises the connector and loads operating rules — Claude will automatically call this at the start of each conversation | Read |
Get Share classes | get_instruments | View all share classes and option classes | Read |
Get Stakeholders | get_stakeholders | List all stakeholders | Read |
Get Holdings | get_holdings | View holdings (all company, or filtered by stakeholder) | Read |
Get Representatives | get_representatives | View who has access to manage a stakeholder's account or the company account | Read |

Example Conversations
Example 1: Viewing the cap table
"Show me a summary of my current cap table"
Claude retrieves all share classes, stakeholders, and their holdings, then presents an overview of ownership across the company — broken down by instrument type and stakeholder.
Example 2: Recording an option grant
"Grant 10,000 EMI options to Sarah Johnson at an exercise price of £0.10, vesting over 4 years with a 1-year cliff, starting 1 June 2026"
Claude first checks that the EMI option class and Sarah Johnson already exist in your cap table. It then lists every field it will submit — instrument, quantity, exercise price, vesting schedule — and asks you to confirm before saving. If the stakeholder doesn’t yet exist, it will also create them.
Example 3: Adding a new stakeholder
"Add James Lee as a new employee stakeholder. He's based in the UK, joined on 1 May 2026, and his email is james@example.com"
Claude creates James as a stakeholder. Because an email address was provided, it also sets up his representative login and prompts you to invite him.
Example 4: Checking a specific holding
"How many shares does David Smith hold?"
Claude retrieves David's confirmed holdings and reports the quantity and instrument type.
Important Notes
Data access is scoped to your account
The connector accesses the Shareflo company linked to your login. If you manage multiple companies in Shareflo, connect using the account for the relevant company.
Write actions always require your confirmation
Claude will never create or modify cap table data without explicitly listing the proposed action and asking you to approve it first.
Disconnecting
To revoke Claude's access, go to Settings → Connectors in Claude and disconnect Shareflo. You can reconnect at any time — your Shareflo data is unaffected by disconnecting.
Data and Privacy
The connector reads cap table data from your Shareflo account. Data transmitted during a session is not stored by the connector beyond that session. For full details, see the Shareflo Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
Tools stop responding
If you authentication expires and Claude stops responding to Shareflo tool calls, then Claude should automatically redirect you to re-authenticate yourself. But if for some reason that doesn’t happen, simply disconnect and reconnect the connector in Settings → Connectors to generate a fresh session.
Authentication fails when connecting from Claude Desktop
If you are connecting Shareflo from Claude Desktop and are also logged into Claude Web with a different account, the OAuth authentication flow may fail or connect to the wrong account.
Fix: Complete the initial connection from Claude Web rather than Claude Desktop. Once authenticated in Claude Web, the connection will work correctly across surfaces.
Open claude.ai in your browser
Go to Settings → Connectors → Customise → Add Custom Connector
Complete the connection and authorisation there
Claude Desktop will pick up the connection automatically
Shareflo tools not appearing in a conversation
Tools only appear when the connector is active for that specific conversation.
Fix:
Start a new chat
Click the + icon or connector settings at the bottom of the chat
Toggle Shareflo on for that session
If Shareflo doesn't appear in the list at all, go to Settings → Connectors and confirm the connection is still active and that the individual Shareflo tools are set to Allow, not to Blocked. If the authentication has expired (no longer connected), reauthenticated using the steps above.
Claude asks for confirmation on every tool call
By default, Claude prompts you to approve each tool call. If you find this disruptive, you can enable permanent permissions.
Fix: In Claude, go to your profile settings → Customise → Connectors → find the Shareflo connector → select Tool Permissions → Always Allow
Tool calls time out or return no response
Occasionally a tool call may take longer than expected if the Shareflo platform is under load or your connection is slow.
Fix: Ask Claude to try again. If timeouts persist, contact support@shareflo.co.uk.
